What is Gypsum?

Gypsum is a soft sulfate mineral composed of calcium sulfate dehydrate, with the chemical formula CaSO4·2H2O. It belongs to a group of minerals called the sulfates, and is the most common of the approximately 150 sulfate minerals. Sulfates are compounds of one or more metals with oxygen and sulfur. Gypsum is also a very soft stone, so soft that a fingernail can easily scratch it.

Typically clear to white, gypsum may be colored reddish to brown or yellow if it has impurities.

What is its Applications?

Gypsum has been widely used throughout the history, we can find it in ancient art to some modern houses.

The most significant use for gypsum is for wallboard and plaster products. Wallboard is used in the interior walls in homes. Some gypsum is used to make Portland cement, and some is used in agricultural applications. A small amount of very pure gypsum is used in glassmaking and other specialized industrial applications.

The other usages are for the paper and textile industries as a white paint and filler material, as fertilizer (e.g. supporting the balancing between the magnesium, potassium and micronutrients) and in chemical industry (ammonium sulfate, Sulphur and Sulphur oxide production).

Where is it found?

The different varieties of gypsum are found in CanadaFrance, Spain, Australia, Iran and Pakistan.

It is our honor to be the pioneering company in Iran in supplying this beautiful natural stone to other countries.
